Reading Strategies

Reading is a skill that takes practice.  Sometimes a person reads for enjoyment and other times a person reads to gain knowledge.  You become a better reader when you know the purpose of why you are reading.  Different types of reading material require different types of reading skills.  Being able to read effectively involves understanding the structure of texts, understanding how to read for different purposes, and how to reflect on what you read.  There are many different strategies that can help you become a more efficient and effective reader.
 
All of the following reading strategies have the same thing in common
When you read you have to:

  • Plan
  • Read
  • Reflect
